Brushy Land
"The Kitchen" is the first structure we built on the land. That's Dad admiring his handy work back in 1979.
After we built The Kitchen, we built The Lodge next to it. The Lodge is where we eat Thanksgiving lunch. When we fold up
the tables, it's also where most people sleep.
The Outhouse has a porclean potty in it. It's on a septic tank system.
"Brushyhenge" is where we gather to watch the sunset. Dad designed it so that every board either
points to a solstice or points directly East/West/North/South. Even the benches point to the solstices.
To verify that Dad's geometry was correct, we went out there on the first Summer & Winter solstice after
Brushyhenge was built. Sure enough, the rails pointed at the setting sun like a rifle.
Many a clay pigeon has died near The Shotgun Platform. Quite a few survived too.
You can't tell from the photo, but there are pretty tough hill climbs for dirt bikes on both sides of the cantilevered "Lookout
Platform".
We normally keep our old Jeep Scrambler and our Ford tractor in "The Pole Barn". This photo was taken not long after we built it in
1982. That's my sister in the photo.
Four years ago, Dad & I built a new front entrance. We had never worked with rock before, but we got a real kick out of it.
We hand cut (with hammer and chisel) all 600 cornerstones. You get really good at it after the first 500.
